Quality assured, safety secured

Quality Assurance

Why QA and QC matter
In the food industry, everything revolves around trust. Trust that products are safe, compliant with legislation, meet customer requirements, and align with your own quality standards. That trust does not happen by itself. It is built through quality assurance and quality control, the structure and practice used to manage, improve, and secure processes. QA and QC are not standalone functions. They are a combination of policies, checks, records, verifications, and culture. When these elements are properly aligned, they make quality demonstrable and food safety robust.
What lies beneath
Quality assurance and quality control are two sides of the same coin:
- Quality assurance focuses on preventing deviations through structured, system driven processes
- Quality control focuses on detecting deviations through inspections, testing, monitoring, and documentation
Together, they provide:
- Insight into risks
- Control over processes
- Evidence of compliance and performance
Without QA and QC, quality remains an intention. With them, it becomes a result.
Leadership as the driving force
Well organised QA and QC build confidence both internally and externally.
Leadership means:
- Setting clear expectations and responsibilitiesProviding training, tools, and awareness
- Driving continuous improvement based on data and insights
Organisations that align QA and QC with strategy become more agile, not only meeting requirements, but continuously improving.
Three levels of development
Compliance | Basic inspections and documentation
Operating a quality and food safety management system with structured documentation such as checklists, inspection rounds, and records. Compliance with legislation, customer requirements, and certification standards such as BRCGS, IFS, and FSSC 22000 is demonstrable.
Compliance+ | Validation and verification
Ensuring the effectiveness of processes and control measures through structured validation and verification. This includes HACCP verification, internal audits, management reviews, and continuous improvement of procedures. Quality is actively evaluated and strengthened.
Strategic | Predictive quality control
Evolving QA and QC towards predictive, data driven quality management. Using real time monitoring, data analysis, and advanced technologies to identify deviations before they occur. Quality becomes proactive, processes become more efficient, and QA and QC become strategic tools for customer satisfaction, efficiency, and innovation.
What it delivers
A strong QA and QC approach provides:
- Demonstrable food safety and compliance
- Fewer deviations, complaints, and failure costs
- Greater efficiency and process control
- Better audit outcomes and increased customer trust
- Strategic insights based on data
Quality is no longer a department. It becomes a way of working.
