Creating insight through collaboration
Together with a team of sustainability and data specialists, Albert Heijn set out to map its environmental footprint.
A user friendly tool was developed, enabling farmers to input relevant data directly at the source. This data was then validated and translated into actionable insights through an advanced Life Cycle Assessment, supported by Life Cycle Inventory methodology.
By adding a crop specific module, the impact of individual crops could be analysed in greater detail.
Results that drive change
This approach provided a clear picture of the environmental impact across the supply chain, while also increasing engagement at every level. From growers to distributors, awareness grew, along with the willingness to take action. The insights formed the basis for targeted improvements, focused on reducing emissions and strengthening sustainable supply chain relationships.
More than data, a shared responsibility
This collaboration demonstrates that sustainable change does not start with spreadsheets, but with people. With farmers gaining insight into their impact, partners taking responsibility, and experts bridging the gap between ambition and execution, real progress was achieved.
