Marketability

3 min read

Why marketability matters

Before a product reaches the shelf, it must demonstrably meet strict quality requirements. Retailers, regulators, and consumers all seek assurance: is this product safe, reliable, and compliant with legislation? A marketability report provides that proof. It combines analyses of product characteristics with label verification and regulatory compliance. This not only enables market access, but also builds trust in both brand and product.

What lies beneath

Marketability goes beyond labelling alone. It is about the integration of microbiological, chemical, and nutritional analyses, complemented by sensory characteristics.

Packaging must also be fully compliant, from ingredient declarations to origin information.

The biggest misconception? That marketability only matters for export. In reality, it is essential in every market to reduce risks and safeguard trust.

Leadership as the foundation

Developing marketability reports requires close collaboration between QA, R&D, supply chain, and external laboratories. Leadership is needed to make the right choices: which analyses are required, how to translate retailer requirements into concrete plans, and how to embed this structurally.

Organisations that approach this effectively do not treat marketability as a formality, but as proof of their commitment to quality and continuity.

Two levels of development

Compliance | Getting the basics right

Preparing a marketability report that brings together all required analyses and labelling checks.

Strategic | Looking ahead and planning

Developing an analysis plan for marketability reports, taking into account both legislation and specific retailer requirements. This ensures marketability is managed proactively and aligned with future markets.

What it delivers

A well-structured approach to marketability provides clear benefits:

  • Access to markets through demonstrable compliance with retailer and regulatory requirements
  • Reduced risk of rejection, recalls, or legal barriers
  • Increased trust from retailers, consumers, and regulators
  • Greater efficiency and certainty by combining analyses and label checks

Where do you stand?

Is your product fully marketable today, or are you still reacting to individual requirements? With a marketability report and analysis plan, you create clarity, trust, and structure.
