What lies beneath
Carbon emissions are not limited to energy use. They are embedded in processes, transport, supply chain activities, and even in procurement and waste.
To take control, you need to understand:
- Where emissions occur
- How much is emitted across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3
- What actions can reduce that impact
Climate policy requires structure, data, and collaboration. Only then does it move beyond reporting and become a driver for improvement.
Leadership means focusing on the long term
Effective climate policy requires leadership at the highest level. It involves setting ambitions, defining standards, and ensuring progress is embedded across the organisation. Organisations that take the lead build credibility, resilience, and future readiness. Climate policy becomes not a project, but an integral part of strategy, culture, and behaviour.
Three levels of development
Compliance | Measuring emissions
Mapping the organisational carbon footprint. Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions are measured and documented according to international standards such as the GHG Protocol. The focus is on transparency and meeting regulatory and customer requirements.
Compliance+ | Reduction as a target
Setting clear reduction targets, often aligned with Science Based Targets. Developing structured reduction plans, prioritising actions, and actively reducing emissions. Climate becomes a managed and measurable topic within the organisation.
Strategic | Climate as a steering tool
Integrating climate policy into decision making, processes, and behaviour. Using KPIs, monitoring progress, and embedding climate actions within continuous improvement cycles. The organisation evolves towards long term goals such as net zero, supply chain collaboration, and circular operations.
What it delivers
A mature climate strategy provides:
- Insight into emission related risks and opportunities
- Reduced operational costs through energy efficiency
- Compliance with frameworks such as CSRD, SBTi, and the GHG Protocol
- Stronger positioning towards customers, investors, and employees
- Future ready decision making based on reliable data
Climate policy is not a limitation to growth. It is a condition for sustainable development.
